Conventional & Addressable Fire Alarm Systems

📌

Conventional Fire Alarms

Zone-based systems ideal for smaller buildings: shops, offices and light industrial units. The panel indicates the zone of origin when an alarm activates.

  • Cost-effective for smaller premises
  • BS 5839-1 compliant
  • Compatible with Categories M, L and P
  • Simple maintenance and operation
📡

Addressable Fire Alarms

Device-level identification: the panel shows the exact detector or call point that has activated. Essential for larger or complex buildings where rapid identification is critical.

  • Exact device identification on alarm
  • Scalable: add devices without rewiring zones
  • Sophisticated cause-and-effect programming
  • Preferred by fire risk assessors for complex sites

⚠ Important Legal Notice

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, responsible persons for commercial premises must ensure their fire detection system is properly maintained. Failure to comply can result in prosecution and unlimited fines.

A current Fire Risk Assessment is also a legal requirement. While we don't carry out FRAs directly, our engineers can advise on how your fire detection system should reflect your FRA's findings.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Ajax offers a dedicated fire and life safety range including the FireProtect Jeweller (smoke and heat detector), FireProtect Plus Jeweller (smoke, heat and CO), and the EN54 Fire Hub, a fully EN54-certified wireless fire alarm control panel. For new installations requiring integrated intruder and fire protection on a single platform, Ajax is an excellent choice.
A traditional BS 5839 fire alarm panel (conventional or addressable) is typically wired and better suited to larger commercial buildings requiring multiple zones. Ajax's wireless fire detection is ideal for smaller to medium-sized premises, offices, retail units and residential properties where a wired installation would be disruptive. For larger or more complex sites, we install traditional addressable panels from leading manufacturers.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, responsible persons must implement adequate fire detection and warning systems as identified by their Fire Risk Assessment. For most commercial premises, this means a professionally installed and maintained fire alarm system. Failure to comply is a criminal offence and can invalidate building insurance.
BS 5839 requires a competent engineer to inspect your fire alarm at least twice a year (every six months). Our PPM contracts cover all statutory inspections with full written reports issued after every visit.
Yes. Fire alarm systems can be connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre for automatic fire brigade notification when the system activates, known as a Category P system under BS 5839. Our monitoring partner EMCS provides 24/7 fire alarm monitoring with sub-30-second response. Ajax systems also send instant push notifications to your phone via the Ajax app.
