Understanding Alarm Grades — BS EN 50131

Grade 1
Low Risk

Basic domestic. Suitable for properties with low intrusion risk.

Grade 2
Low–Medium Risk

Most common for monitored systems. Required for police URN registration. Ajax achieves Grade 2.

Grade 3
Medium–High Risk

Higher-value commercial premises. Ajax achieves Grade 3 on supported configurations.

Grade 4
High Risk

Highest-risk sites. Specialist design required. Contact us to discuss.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Ajax Systems is one of the world's leading wireless security platforms, trusted by over 4.5 million users globally. Their Jeweller encrypted wireless protocol offers up to 1,700m device range with no interference, and every Ajax system is controlled through a single mobile app covering intruder alarms, CCTV, fire detection and access control in one place. This aligns perfectly with Prism's ethos of delivering full-spectrum, joined-up security.
Absolutely. We are experienced in maintaining and upgrading systems from all major manufacturers including Honeywell Galaxy, Texecom Premier Elite, Pyronix Enforcer and many others. We can take over your existing maintenance contract, carry out fault rectification, add zones, and advise on whether an upgrade to Ajax is the right step for your property.
Under BS EN 50131, intruder alarm systems are graded 1 to 4 based on risk. Ajax systems achieve Grade 2 (standard for monitored residential and commercial systems requiring a police URN) and Grade 3 (higher-risk commercial sites). Our engineers advise on the correct grade during your free site survey, taking into account your insurer's requirements.
Yes. Ajax uses a proprietary encrypted two-way Jeweller radio protocol specifically designed for security applications. Every communication is encrypted and authenticated. The Hub maintains a live connection via Ethernet and dual SIM; if one path is severed, it automatically fails over. The hub also has a built-in battery backup so it continues operating during a power cut.
Most residential Ajax installations are completed in a single day. The wireless design eliminates the need for extensive cabling, significantly reducing disruption compared to wired systems. Commercial installations with multiple zones and integrations may take two to three days depending on site size.
