Our Security Accreditations — NSI, SSAIB & BAFE

Recognised certifications are the mark of a professional security company. Prism is committed to working to the highest industry standards — and being independently verified to prove it.

Why It Matters

Don't Just Take Our Word for It

Industry accreditations from recognised bodies such as the NSI (National Security Inspectorate) and SSAIB provide independent verification that a security company operates to the standards required by insurers, police forces and regulatory bodies.

When you choose an NSI or SSAIB-approved installer, you can be confident that:

  • Your system has been designed and installed to the relevant British Standard
  • The installation company has been independently audited and inspected
  • Your alarm qualifies for police response (URN registration)
  • Your insurance company will accept the installation certificate
  • You have access to a formal complaints procedure

Important: Anyone can claim accreditation and put logos on a website. Always verify a company's certification directly with the issuing body. NSI and SSAIB both provide online search tools to verify member status.

Certifying Bodies

The Certifications That Matter

NSI Gold
National Security Inspectorate — NACOSS Gold Scheme

The NSI is one of the UK's two leading independent certification bodies for the security and fire protection sectors. NSI Gold (also known as NACOSS Gold) is the highest level of approval for alarm and security system installers — recognised by police forces, local authorities and insurance companies as the benchmark standard.

NSI-approved companies are subject to regular, unannounced inspections to verify ongoing compliance with installation standards.

SSAIB
Security Systems & Alarms Inspection Board

SSAIB is the second leading UKAS-accredited certification body for the UK security industry. Like NSI, SSAIB approval means a company has been independently assessed against the relevant British and European Standards, and is subject to ongoing surveillance audits.

SSAIB-approved alarms also qualify for police URN registration and are accepted by all major insurance providers.

BAFE
British Approvals for Fire Equipment — SP203 Scheme

BAFE is the independent registration body for quality fire protection companies in the UK. BAFE SP203 certification demonstrates that a company designs, installs and maintains fire detection and alarm systems to BS 5839 standards, assessed and certified by a UKAS-accredited certification body.

BAFE registration is increasingly specified by insurers, Fire & Rescue Services and facilities managers as a prerequisite for fire alarm contractors.

BS 5839
British Standard for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

BS 5839 Part 1 covers the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in commercial buildings. Part 6 covers residential premises.

All Prism fire alarm systems are designed and installed in accordance with the relevant part of BS 5839, ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and your insurer's requirements.

Accreditations Explained

Frequently Asked Questions

NSI (National Security Inspectorate) is the UK's leading UKAS-accredited certification body for the security and fire protection sectors. NSI-approved companies are subject to rigorous vetting, annual inspection and ongoing compliance audits. Using an NSI-approved installer gives you confidence that your system will be installed correctly, is eligible for a police URN, and will be accepted by major insurers.
Both NSI and SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board) are UKAS-accredited certification bodies for UK security installers. Both offer broadly equivalent levels of recognition — police forces, insurers and regulatory bodies accept certifications from either body. NSI is slightly larger and more widely recognised, particularly for commercial installations.
BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) is the independent register of quality fire protection companies in the UK. BAFE-registered companies are third-party certificated to install, commission and maintain fire detection and alarm systems to BS 5839. Specifying a BAFE-registered company gives assurance that your fire alarm work is being carried out to the highest industry standard.
Many commercial insurance policies require that security and fire alarm systems are installed and maintained by a company accredited by NSI, SSAIB or BAFE as a condition of cover. We recommend checking your policy wording. As Prism's accreditations process completes, all new installations will carry the appropriate certification.
